New York, NY – October 10, 2007 – The
innovative musical accomplishments of Jaco Pastorius, the fretless bass
virtuoso who made his mark with the fusion group Weather Report, will be the
focus of a featured panel discussion on Saturday October 26, 2007 at
The First Annual Jazz Improv LIVE! 2007 Convention & Festival (
www.jazzimprov.com/live ), a four-day event which takes place October 25-28,
at The New Yorker Hotel and Manhattan Center, 34th Street and 8th
Avenue. The panel "Jaco Pastorius: His Life and Music" will
be moderated by Bill Milkowski the author of JACO: The
Extraordinary And Tragic Life of Jaco Pastorius. Appearing on the panel
with Milkowski will be basist Mark Egan, and Bob Bobbing, a teenage pal of
Jaco's and fellow bass player who documented Jaco's playing in the early
pre-Weather Report years, in much the same way that Dean Benedetti did with
Charlie Parker in the 1940s and 50s. Bobbing carried a Sony reel-to-reel
tape recorder with him to Jaco's early performances. Along with Milkowski,
Bobbing has a unique perspective on Jaco, having seen him develop from a
drummer into an extraordinary bass player, and he has dozens of colorful
stories and anecdotes about the early years. Jazz Improv LIVE! 2007 will
feature over 450 jazz artists in 100 performances, and 80 panels and
workshops, and a 15,000 square ft. jazz expo and shopping mall. TO
